Industrial Air Filtration: A Way Towards A Clean Environment
Environmental pollution is described as the contamination of the natural environment to such an extent that it adversely affects the balance of ecosystems and our lifestyles. With the rising demand for a comfortable lifestyle; the pollution has increased rapidly due to the impact of advanced technologies and modernizations. All such practices have simultaneously raised some serious environmental issues like global warming due to the harmful gases emission from industries. Environmental pollution has been occurring in different forms that include air, water, soil, noise, radioactive, and light. To counter the issues arising out of air pollution from various industries, industrial air filter devices have been invented which are made up of fibrous or porous materials to remove pollutants such as dust, mold, pollen, and bacteria from the air. The existence of charcoal in an air filter plays the role of an adsorbent or a catalyst which removes odors and gaseous pollutants that deplete the ozone layer. Air filters across industries are made of a consistent frame with a filter media, tested to prevent leaks between the frame and the medium. They are useful in the removal of solid particulates and molecular contaminants in order to enhance the air quality in the atmosphere. A few filters are equipped with a faceguard to protect the media while handling the pollutants. These filters are tested through various standards such as BS EN 1822, and BS EN ISO 16890-1 European standards for HEPA/ULPA filters and ISO 14644 to purify the atmosphere.
The industrial air filters have been available in the market in various forms such as dust collectors, oil mist collectors, high efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filters, baghouse filters, wet and dry scrubbers, and welding fume extractors. Wet and dry scrubbers are the most demanded devices used in the global industrial air filtration market as they have a consistent pollutant collection efficiency. The dust collectors provide different air purifying advantages which include protection from harmful effects of pollution and improved productivity. Additionally, it complies with Clean Air Act (CAA), the health and air emission regulatory body, to prevent pollutants coming out of the filters. HEPA filters trap very fine particles suspending in the air which has an efficiency of 99.97%.
