Recent Strategic Initiatives in the UK COVID-19 DiagnosticMarket

·        On 21^st May 2020, Abbott declared a government contract to supply millions of its laboratory-based IgG antibody tests to National Health Service (NHS) laboratories across the UK over the coming months. Abbott has the capacity to provide significant numbers of tests to the UK and has already shipped 800,000 antibody tests on this week to NHS laboratories, to be used as part of the testing initiative announced by the UK Secretary of State for Health today. These tests, alongside the Abbott PCR tests already being used across the NHS, enable Abbott to support the UK with broad, reliable molecular and antibody testing during this pandemic. Abbott's SARS-CoV-2 IgG antibody test had 99.9% specificity and 100% sensitivity for detecting the IgG antibody in patients 17 days or more after symptoms began. Abbott and Roche will supply the government with more than 10 million tests over the coming months.

 

·        On 15th May 2020, UK based digital health company, Babylon is offering COVID-19 antibody tests to anyone in the UK at a cost price of nearly $83.5. It will use a kit developed by Abbott Laboratories.

 

·        On 4^th June 2020, hVIVO COVID Clear Test, antibody test available to UK employers to support get people back to work. Having secured the rights from Quotient for their antibody testing platform which detects with 100% accuracy antibodies when present (unlike finger-prick tests which MHRA advised against), hVIVO is now formally offering antibody testing to customers.
